Kenroku-en Vase

$400.00

I forget, given how young our country is, how ancient other nations are. It hit me hard during a visit to Kenroku-en, the Six Attributes Garden, in Ishikawa, Japan. A private site developed starting in the 1620s, it includes the oldest fountain in the country, a teahouse that dates to 1774, and towering pine trees planted from seed ages ago. Everything was so robust that it all still stands centuries later, which is the same forward thinking that went into our Kenroku-en Vase.

Its 20-inch height and thick-walled clay body lend it a rugged sensibility. Glazed with a high gloss and waterproof, the jar can be used conventionally as a water container but could also be a vase, planter, or a simple decorative object on a shelf or tabletop.

Imported. Handling Fee is $10.
