The first time I saw a hibiscus in person, it stopped me in my tracks. A friend and I had road-tripped to Austin, just for the heck of it, and a gaggle of hot pink hibiscus stood in a bed outside a café, showy and ostentatious, with flowers the size of dinner plates. I was dumbfounded that they were real. Inside, I was offered hibiscus tea--made, yes, of hibiscus petals--a tart, refreshing tincture the same rosy pink as the flowers outside.
It's this intersection of beauty and utility that made me fall in love with the hibiscus right then and there, and our Hibiscus Stool marries these traits too. It has the sturdiness of a barrel but the intricate detailing of a fine sculpture; it can endure the elements on a porch, patio, or deck, but it also slips seamlessly into an indoor space. Beauty and brawn pack quite a punch.
