One might envision an archaeological dig in Ravenna, the ancient Western Capital for the Roman empire when they lay eyes on the Augustus Lamp. Ravenna still exists, about equidistant from Bologna, Venice, and San Marino on the Eastern coast of Italy. It’s not hard to imagine such a find even contemporaneously, as this region has so much rich history in the antiquities.
The weathered and deeply patinated bronze finish atop solid wood does not give away that this is not an anciently casted bronze vessel that has waited hundreds of years to be unearthed. The subtlety of the open weave linen shade espouses a perfect balance for the power and stature of the Roman-inspired base - enough to add some glimpse into the history of the region while maintaining a foothold in the contemporary spaces common today.
