Lost Wax Casting was a form of production in the antiquities and this mirror seems to have encapsulated the look and feel of the art that eventually was practiced throughout the ancient world across the globe. The slightly uneven surface finish and small imperfections are characteristic of this process, which was used from Palestine to Mesopotamia to China to Ecuador to the Nepalese highlands and beyond.
The combination of casting metals with glass backed by polished metallic coatings was a uniquely near-east concept for most of history, and the Indians and Chinese made mirrors very similar to the Caste Mirror for centuries as luxury items.
