Chinoiserie Carp Black Tea Caddy
Chinoiserie has always fascinated me, and after 20 trips to main-land china – I am a fan of the blue and white style as well. The history of fine china and ceramics go back many centuries to the Xia’s in the BC’s. The classics from the Yuan, Qing Hua and Ming era incredible in their craftsmanship and their use of themes and storytelling. I first came under the spell of Chinoiserie when I was at a small town in France on the way to Epernay. This throw-back little café going back to the early 1920’s had survived the great war, and it’s fine walls had been painted in a fine Chinoiserie style in red and black. This example of a Tea Jar or Caddy is a classic, the Traditional Carp motif brings both a familiar sense and a beautiful look. Dimensions: 7 x 7 x 12 in inches. Imported. Handling Fee is $20.
