Gabe and I had been hunting around the Round Top Flea Market in Texas for some shelving units for our new house. They had to be tall and sturdy, and if they looked a little worse for wear, we were perfectly fine with it.
We hit the jackpot with a set of shelves that had been in a carpenter’s garage; he built them himself years ago, reinforcing them with a metal cross brace across the back--which Gabe loved. That brace on the otherwise open back stayed with me, and it’s now featured prominently on our Cross Bookshelf.
Five shelves are installed with mortise-and-tenon joints, and two drawers let you stash items out of sight. The soft blue-gray finish is lightly distressed like your favorite pair of jeans.
