I’ve been in my fair share of luxury lodgings all over the world, and I find myself delighted and inspired by the décor, maybe because so much of it is custom-crafted for that particular hotel. The last time Gabe and I were in Vermont, our suite included bedside lamps in a graceful shape with an intriguing blue glaze.

Knowing that lamps are a savvy way of adding whatever a room lacks--sparkle, pattern, texture--I was determined to re-create it. Our Shelburne Table Lamp is actually made of terracotta; part of it was left unglazed for a handmade look, and the rest has a gorgeous blue-green glossy finish. An oatmeal-colored linen shade tops it off.
