A Day in Jaipur: Design Inspiration from the Pink City

This summer, I returned to Rajasthan — not only to meet some of our long-standing artisan partners in Jaipur, but also to visit my hometown, Sikar, just a few hours away. While Sikar is less known than Jaipur, it shares the same rich heritage of craftsmanship, storytelling, and color that fuels Wisteria’s global design inspiration.

From early morning palace visits to conversations with woodworkers and stone carvers, this journey deepened my appreciation for the artistry and energy that defines this region — and I’m thrilled to share how it has shaped our new Jaipur Summer collection.

City Palace Mornings: Light, Layers, and Legacy

My day in Jaipur began at the City Palace, where pastel pinks, ornate gates, and hand-painted details create an atmosphere that feels both regal and welcoming. Walking through these layered courtyards, I saw echoes of Wisteria’s carved wooden furniture, soft pastels, and antique-inspired mirrors. It reminded me how a space can feel simultaneously grand and lived-in — something we strive for in our pieces.

The Bazaar Buzz: Textiles, Brass, and Block Prints

Next, I wandered through Johari and Bapu Bazaars. These markets are a celebration of abundance: stacks of hand block-printed textiles, glimmering brass trays, intricate juttis. This joyful contrast of patterns and materials finds its way into our block-printed pillows, hammered metal vases, and patterned rugs. Each item in our collection honors this energy — elevated, but never overdone..

Patrika Gate: A Riot of Color

In the afternoon, I visited Patrika Gate, known for its rainbow-hued archways and intricate painted panels. It’s one of the most photographed spots in India — and for good reason. The vibrant mix of colors and motifs here inspired some of our new lacquer trays and painted decor items. For anyone looking to add playful drama to their space, this is Jaipur’s masterclass in how to do it right.

Meeting the Makers: Craftsmanship Up Close

Later, I spent time with artisans who craft bone inlay furniture and carved wood mirrors for Wisteria. Watching their meticulous handwork up close is always humbling. Many of these skills have been passed down for generations. At Wisteria, we honor this tradition through socially conscious partnerships — and ensure each product tells the story of its maker and origin.

Sunset at Amber Fort: Earth, Stone, and Soul

I ended the day at Amber Fort, where golden sandstone glows at dusk. The fort’s aged walls and expansive views reminded me that sometimes, beauty is best when softened by time. This moment inspired some of the natural, antique-finished textures we use in sideboards, consoles, and stone-topped tables.

A Personal Detour: Sikar’s Quiet Charm

Before leaving Rajasthan, I spent a few days in Sikar — my hometown. It’s a quieter place than Jaipur, but no less rich in story. The old havelis (mansions) with their frescoes and inner courtyards, the rhythm of local life, and the unpretentious beauty of carved wood and handwoven dhurries — these are the details that stay with you. Wisteria’s soul is shaped as much by places like Sikar as by grand destinations. It’s the blend of the seen and the hidden that gives a home character.
